After I posted about my CrossFit adventures, I was contacted by the guys at SlimKicker about their website and app, which allow you to earn points as you work out and register your training. I had been using a similar website/app to this called Fitocracy, but unfortunately the app has not worked since I upgraded my phone’s software. Of course, I could still use the Fitocracy website but I much prefer using an app than having to log onto the website and try and navigate that on my phone, as then I can record my training immediately afterwards, while it is all still fresh in my head (and before my limbs start aching!).
So, the timing was great and I have started using the SlimKicker app instead.
The SlimKicker app is more designed to help you in weight loss, whereas Fitocracy is focused on training rather than weight loss per se. Because of this, SlimKicker has a diet function, where you can input the food that you eat as part of your weight loss/training programme. I’m now around my target weight, so for me, this is a little redundant but I can see that it is great if you are looking to lose pounds as well as training more. When you sign up, you can input your target weight and your current weight and it calculates a daily calorie intake to try and stick to.
SlimKicker has challenges that you can join in with to earn extra points. I’ve signed up for the Squat Everyday challenge, which does exactly what it says on the tin. Fitocracy also has challenges but I found them a little too “hardcore” and had only managed two of them and really they were the easiest two.
SlimKicker’s challenges are much more “all round” and there are also some focused more on emotional wellbeing (mindfulness etc), which appeals to me.
You can also join specific groups to chat with like-minded people on the site and encourage each other along the way. One thing that Fitocracy had that SlimKicker misses is that other Fitocracy members could give you “props” for any exercise that you had done. To me it really felt encouraging and made me feel like people were cheering me along. That said, I have only just joined SlimKicker and so I am still feeling my way around and dipping into the community.
I love the aspect of both sites that you earn points for the training that you do. I have only recently started to love the sessions that I do weekly with my trainer and I do struggle to train in the days in between, so SlimKicker and Fitocracy are ideal for me in that they really encourage me to train, to earn those points!
Have you tried out these sites or similar ones? How have you found them?
