The boys are so similar in so many ways and yet they are also very much their own little people: chalk and cheese. Potty training is a very good example of this.
It was slow going to get O potty trained. We took the slow route as we thought that the best approach with him. And after almost a year that clearly wasn’t working, so we took the fast track and took the Easter break to get him in “big boy pants” on a daily basis.
By contrast, E took the decision himself, simply stating one day that he didn’t want to wear nappies any longer. And that was that. He wanted “big boy pants” like his brother and to use the potty; he had decided.
Chalk and cheese, you see.
And E’s decision has pushed O into being better and concentrating more and so he’s now having fewer accidents; he cannot possibly be beaten by his little brother. Yes, they both still do have accidents from time to time, but even when they were sick a few weeks ago, they both handled it really well.
In the end, it’s been potty training the easy way with E. We always knew he was a determined little boy and now he’s proven it in such a positive way.
They are both still on nighttime nappies but I see the end to nappies now in sight. Our next goal is getting E to give up his nighttime dummy. Somehow, I don’t think that will be as easy as it was with O.
